Henry Yann work is similar in subject matter to Warner's work in that he paints the figure abstractly evoking emotions. He differs in his approach and medium focusing on value instead of line. His application of oil paint and color palette creates a softens in his work. This affect is a challenge in my work using acrylic paint. He contrast the softness with quick harsh brushstrokes to create intensity. I am working on this contrast in my current pieces softness verses harshness to create intensity.
In the first piece he immerses the figure into the background which is what I am working on in my current work. I am interested in the idea of human interaction with it's surroundings. I have felt so isolated at times in my life while going through traumatic events. Most people go through some traumatic event in their life time whether personally or through a loved one. I want my work to inspire connections and conversations on an emotional level about life experiences. Being able to connect with others is a vital part of my work and what motivates me to create.
